    Peace in the Storm

It’s been raining here… a lot. And, it’s been really cold. Not really what one hopes for near the end of June! Being a mom of two little kids, I treasure all of those outdoor activities that promise to exhaust the kiddos while also providing endless entertainment and lots of good old Vitamin D for Momma. I’m sure I’m just preaching to the choir here on this one, am I right? So, with the every other day rainstorms, pools that are too cold to be swum in, and cancelled activities, my children and I are going a little stir crazy at this point.   In addition, my kids have also…

    Joy Set Before You

Have you ever pondered how Jesus could walk towards the cross and still find joy? I can’t even imagine everything that must have been going through his head as he walked out those final days. Christ was begging the Father to forgive those who were persecuting him, in real time, as it was unfolding. Could you maintain that mindset while people spit on you? Throw rocks at you? Nail you to a cross? He could have easily pled with the Father to not fulfill the Great Commission, but he wanted each of us so badly, he found joy in what was to come!     Hebrews 12:1-2 says “And let…

It Won’t Be Like This For Long

There are a lot of things that can be used to test our patience. Am I right? Just take a minute to think about it, and then stand back as the floodgate of examples in your life pours down on you. Right now, I am living in the land of toddlerdom, where I am crusading in unfamiliar territory on the daily, the tantrums come by the hour, and the lessons in patience come by the minute. I’m sure you have heard all of the familiar maxims: “The days go slow, but the years go fast.” “It will only be like this for a short time.” “You can do anything for…

Everyday Warriors: Sword Fighting the Battles of Life

“Mom! I need ___________ (Fill in the blank: money, food, a ride, help with homework, my taekwondo uniform, etc..)”.  “Sara, your spreadsheet was due two days ago.” Oh, and the dog is almost out of food, and we need groceries, and the car has a flat tire, and you need to pay (again, fill in the blank…) These are just a few of the seemingly unending list of tasks and responsibilities that pull for our time and energy. Before you know it, we are pulled in more directions than is humanly possible, and that can cause edginess to the most patient person. If that weren’t enough, we can add the…

    Love Through Fingerprints (Part 1)

Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day! While praying over what to write about for my blog entry this month, I kept coming up blank. Perhaps the pressure of posting on Valentine’s Day was getting in my head! I considered writing about love, marriage, friendship, and similar topics related to this Hallmark holiday; however, every subject that came to my mind fell flat in my heart. When preparing for my blog entries, I pray about what God wants me to write about. When I am going through challenges in my life, I pray writing about them brings clarity to me. I pray sharing my difficulties allows others to feel they are not alone…

    Accio, Joy!

I can’t carry purses anymore. I’ve tried. I like the idea of a purse. I feel trendy and more feminine when I carry one, but it just isn’t working out for me. Recently, I even thought I’d give it another shot—my kids are getting a little older and require a bit less stuff; surely, I could enjoy the simple pleasure of toting a purse I like. From the top of my closet, I dug out a beautiful Coach purse my husband had gifted me after a business trip he’d been on. It is several years old but still looks brand new (which is telling to how much use it got…

    Fear Is A Good Thing

Hello, 2019. It’s a new year with new possibilities. Everyone is starting fresh, making resolutions, eating better, working out more, cleaning up the remnants of the previous year, and whatever else comes with January. I don’t know about you, but for me, seeing the pictures everyone is sharing on social media of their resolutions and changes makes me a little anxious!! I feel like if I am not showing the results, checking off my lists, or completing something every single day then I have totally failed, and, oh, what will people think of me?! This whole “What will people think of me?” mindset has been something I have struggled with…

    Blessed by Scripture

The women of the Salty Sunshine compiled a list of Bible Scriptures we feel particularly drawn to during Christmastime! Before we share those Scriptures with you, our curiosity was piqued regarding Bible facts. Did you know…? In the ESV, “Jesus” occurs 925 times, all in the New Testament. The only book of the New Testament that doesn’t contain the name Jesus is 3 John. (Depending on which translation of the Bible you are reading, the number of times “Jesus” is mentioned will vary.) Ref: bibleq.net The KJV has the word “love” occurring 310 times! Ref: christianbiblereference.com The NIV mentions “forgive” 74 times. Ref:christianbiblereference.org “Hope” is seen in the KJV 130…

    The Revolving Door

While there are things in life that will only be singular events, there are many more that seem to be on a revolving door. At least, I have found this to be true for me. Something quite recently that I have been reliving again is this whole “waiting for answers” scenario. As if just waiting on one answer weren’t enough, this time around, my husband and I are anxiously waiting to get answers on multiple BIG situations—a possible job opportunity, medical results for a child, more medical results on our other child, our housing situation—the list has really gotten pretty extensive. I always feel like once the “waiting period” for…
