    I QUIT!!!

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”  (Galatians 6:9 NLT) “Yep, you heard me, I QUIT!!!!”  Does that surprise you?  I QUIT!!  Truth be told, I actually do quit on a regular basis.  For you, I wonder what images pop into your head when you hear the phrase “I QUIT!”?  Do you see someone storming out of a job fed up with the treatment?  Do you see someone in the middle of a workout collapsing to the floor in bodily defeat?  Maybe you see someone, hopeless, putting an end to…

See Giants Fall Part 3: Bloom Where You Are Planted

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (Galatians 6:9 NLT) Happy new month to you all!!! New month already? Really!!! 2020 is flying by!  It’s hard to believe that with all of the Giants we have faced together in 2019, we are moving through another year together! As I reflect back at the start of 2019, I can tell you with full transparency that when I wrote “Great Expectations” last January, I could not begin to predict what the journey would entail, nor the richness of the lessons learned. I…

See Giants Fall Part 1: Made to Win

“For the Lord your God is He who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4 (ESV; emphasis mine) What do you think about when you hear the phrase, “Giants Fall?”  Do you think of the Underdog about to take down the Champion in a competition or a fight?  Is your giant a person, perhaps a family member or a colleague, who slings insults to keep you from rising higher than they do, or to remind you of a past failure?  Do you think of obstacles and circumstances that need to be overcome when you think of conquering giants? Or, is…

Into the Wilderness Part 3: Power Before the Promised Land

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  (Joshua 1:9 NIV) I don’t know a person who hasn’t found themselves wandering through a Wilderness at some point in their lives.  Between childhood and adulthood, life will hit with an arsenal of unfair and uncontrollable circumstances. Some people I know, myself included, have travelled through multiple iterations of various Wilderness seasons.  Health issues, loss and grief, moving, identity challenges, peer pressure, financial difficulty, job stress, parenting, social media comparison traps, and relational issues can cause a person to be stranded…

    Progress Not Perfection

I grew up in a military family. For my siblings and I, this meant lots and lots of moving, developing the ability to adapt to change and newness very quickly, growing accustomed to being the outsiders, and outwardly presenting perfect behavior. I remember my dad making us do his version of drills as punishment, and these drills ranged anywhere from doing laps around an outdoor football stadium followed by pull ups on the monkey bars at the nearby park to marching in a circle repeating, “tick, tock, I’m a clock,” when we were late in starting our school day, as all of the moving necessitated a homeschool education. We wore…

    Springing Into Submission

“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”   (James 4:7 New American Standard Bible)   I don’t know if I am the only one who struggles with submission. Initially, my face physically cringes when I simply hear the word! Submit? Me? NO WAY! I’m not letting ANYONE rule over me! I’m no doormat!! At least, that is what my internal monologue screamed at the word, “submission”—well, until recently.   In previous “submissions” of my writing, I addressed the lies of the enemy and the way that he wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) anything good.  What is good is that GOD IS…

    Teaching Moments

“Lucas, can you please pick up your toys before dinner?” (Me) “No. I don’t want to.” (Lucas) “Lucas, that isn’t how you answer Mommy. You say, ‘Yes, Mommy.’ And then you are obedient and do it.” (Me) “No! I don’t want to.” (Lucas) “That is being disobedient. You are not listening to me, and that is not how you respond. Now you are getting a consequence.” (Me) “NO!! Okay, I’ll do it.” (Lucas) “I’m glad you are doing it, but you are still getting the consequence for being disobedient. When Mommy tells you to do something, you need to listen and obey, and you need to do it with a…

    Fear Is A Good Thing

Hello, 2019. It’s a new year with new possibilities. Everyone is starting fresh, making resolutions, eating better, working out more, cleaning up the remnants of the previous year, and whatever else comes with January. I don’t know about you, but for me, seeing the pictures everyone is sharing on social media of their resolutions and changes makes me a little anxious!! I feel like if I am not showing the results, checking off my lists, or completing something every single day then I have totally failed, and, oh, what will people think of me?! This whole “What will people think of me?” mindset has been something I have struggled with…

“The Farm Store, Frosties and…a Pickle?

Yes! These are a few of our (the women of the Salty Sunshine) favorite traditions! We had fun learning about the various traditions our families enjoy during the Christmas season. Attending Christmas services at church topped the list! We want to give a shout out to all the volunteers!  Volunteers graciously offer their time at Christmas to welcome many guests into their churches! We thank those serving for being the hands and feet of Jesus! KNOW you are impacting lives with the good news of God’s love! So, from The Salty Sunshine, we THANK YOU! Many of our bloggers live in and around the Indianapolis area. Several families identified they…

    Beautifully Broken

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” -Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV   The end-of-the-year holiday seasons have always been a time of reflection for me. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this year is no exception! My son, Maddox, is in North Carolina with his Dad and soon-to-be stepmom and step-brothers. As I sit by myself, in a paradox of simultaneous renewal and restlessness, I am struck by the irony of life. I am 39 years old, slightly more than four months away from the Big 4-0, and my life looks NOTHING…
