What Does the Bible Say About…

All right, friends. In my last blog, I said I would read The 5 Love Languages of Children and bring what I learned to the readers of The Salty Sunshine. I apologize; the follow-through on that has to wait. Here’s why: In the last 24 hours, I have read about or witnessed MANY people hurting. These hurts have been shared on Facebook and through texts, phone calls, and emails. The pain being experienced by people in my life is overwhelming. My nursing peers have lost another patient, my friends are struggling with anxiety/depression, and I am reading shared concerns from successful moms who are doubting their abilities and worrying about…

    Springing Into Submission

“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”   (James 4:7 New American Standard Bible)   I don’t know if I am the only one who struggles with submission. Initially, my face physically cringes when I simply hear the word! Submit? Me? NO WAY! I’m not letting ANYONE rule over me! I’m no doormat!! At least, that is what my internal monologue screamed at the word, “submission”—well, until recently.   In previous “submissions” of my writing, I addressed the lies of the enemy and the way that he wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) anything good.  What is good is that GOD IS…

    Even If

A couple of weeks ago, I had a routine medical test done. The next day, I received a voicemail asking me to call back regarding the test. My heart sank because that’s never a good sign. No one leaves bad news on a voicemail; they always ask you to call back. When I returned the call, the woman told me that the results were slightly questionable and that I needed to schedule for the test to be redone. She assured me that this happens often and that things were most likely fine; however, being human—and a natural worrywart—I wasn’t reassured and immediately started freaking out. The retest was scheduled for…

    Fear Is A Good Thing

Hello, 2019. It’s a new year with new possibilities. Everyone is starting fresh, making resolutions, eating better, working out more, cleaning up the remnants of the previous year, and whatever else comes with January. I don’t know about you, but for me, seeing the pictures everyone is sharing on social media of their resolutions and changes makes me a little anxious!! I feel like if I am not showing the results, checking off my lists, or completing something every single day then I have totally failed, and, oh, what will people think of me?! This whole “What will people think of me?” mindset has been something I have struggled with…

    Finding the Overflow

How many times has your mind jumped to the worst possible solution when a problem arises? You notice pain in your stomach, and your first instinct is to go to Google, and it convinces you that you have some sort of cancer or major ailment? When your child wakes up with a fever, does your mind instantly go to the fact that they have the most rare form of an infection or virus? Or you look down and see you’ve missed a call from your boss, and your mind automatically goes to the fact that you must be in trouble for something? If I’m being honest, this is me like…

    Blessed by Scripture

The women of the Salty Sunshine compiled a list of Bible Scriptures we feel particularly drawn to during Christmastime! Before we share those Scriptures with you, our curiosity was piqued regarding Bible facts. Did you know…? In the ESV, “Jesus” occurs 925 times, all in the New Testament. The only book of the New Testament that doesn’t contain the name Jesus is 3 John. (Depending on which translation of the Bible you are reading, the number of times “Jesus” is mentioned will vary.) Ref: bibleq.net The KJV has the word “love” occurring 310 times! Ref: christianbiblereference.com The NIV mentions “forgive” 74 times. Ref:christianbiblereference.org “Hope” is seen in the KJV 130…

    The Revolving Door

While there are things in life that will only be singular events, there are many more that seem to be on a revolving door. At least, I have found this to be true for me. Something quite recently that I have been reliving again is this whole “waiting for answers” scenario. As if just waiting on one answer weren’t enough, this time around, my husband and I are anxiously waiting to get answers on multiple BIG situations—a possible job opportunity, medical results for a child, more medical results on our other child, our housing situation—the list has really gotten pretty extensive. I always feel like once the “waiting period” for…

    The Mother of All Fear

Fear. It’s a real icky four-letter word. We’ve all experienced it. We’ve all cowered under it. And we have all surely tried our best to overcome it. Dictionary.com defines fear as “a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined.” I’d say that’s pretty accurate to what I’ve felt. And I can honestly say I’ve experienced a new depth of fear since becoming a mom. I wish I could say that I get these warm fuzzy feelings when I think about the birth of my little girl. Instead, I look back at it and feel the fear. When Charis came out, she…

    WAIT…What?!?

Do you ever have those moments in life where you feel like you are headed in a specific direction, but you are still walking around feeling unsure of each step? Do you ever feel like you take a couple of steps forward with confidence and trust, just to find yourself sliding back into the chains of doubt and discouragement? For me, I’m finding that faith is kind of like stepping into the future blindfolded! On the one hand, you know that you are in good hands and that God IS good! You have seen His provision firsthand and felt His protection in times of trouble. You can look back on…
