    Stepping Out…

The past seven months have been filled with transitions, and so I thought, “Why not one more step toward change? Why not shoot for the stars?” So here goes—for the longest time, I’ve wanted to write and share with others. I see it as a way to share a journey of self-discovery and vulnerability. Not sure who would want to read what I have to offer, but the way I see it, I’d much rather know I pursued a dream than go day after day, dreaming, but not even trying to take a tiny step of faith. But here’s the thing—over the years, I’ve learned a few things about pursuing…

    Jumpstart to Joy!

“Those who have been ransomed by the LORD will return. They will enter Jerusalem singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be filled with joy and gladness.”  (Isaiah 51:11 NLT) Happy New Year to all and to all a year of cheer!  Nice little rhyme, right? Too bad life doesn’t always make it easy to sit in cheerfulness! I don’t know about you, but I went into 2019 with Great Expectations!  Literally. I wrote about it and learned about it, yet with each passing month of 2019, new obstacles, new challenges and new circumstances pushed me to the brink of myself!  Little did I…

See Giants Fall- Part 2: Adjust Your Lens

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  (Romans 12:2 NIV) I don’t know how many of you are like me, flopping back and forth between the thoughts in my head, the Truth in my heart, and the circumstances that I see around me.  Sometimes I find that all three are in alignment, and other times my head, my heart, and my circumstances seem to be in battle! Which one wins depends on something super simple, my FOCUS.  Whatever I pay attention to…

See Giants Fall Part 1: Made to Win

“For the Lord your God is He who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4 (ESV; emphasis mine) What do you think about when you hear the phrase, “Giants Fall?”  Do you think of the Underdog about to take down the Champion in a competition or a fight?  Is your giant a person, perhaps a family member or a colleague, who slings insults to keep you from rising higher than they do, or to remind you of a past failure?  Do you think of obstacles and circumstances that need to be overcome when you think of conquering giants? Or, is…

Into the Wilderness Part 3: Power Before the Promised Land

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  (Joshua 1:9 NIV) I don’t know a person who hasn’t found themselves wandering through a Wilderness at some point in their lives.  Between childhood and adulthood, life will hit with an arsenal of unfair and uncontrollable circumstances. Some people I know, myself included, have travelled through multiple iterations of various Wilderness seasons.  Health issues, loss and grief, moving, identity challenges, peer pressure, financial difficulty, job stress, parenting, social media comparison traps, and relational issues can cause a person to be stranded…

Into the Wilderness Part 2: Training Ground

“He changes a desert into a pool of water and makes water flow out of dry ground.”  (Psalm 107:35 NLV) MORE WILDERNESS.  What do you do when you’ve been pushed to your limit and life’s circumstances keep falling apart all around you?  What do you do when you’ve escaped the chains of slavery, in whatever form it comes, but the journey of Freedom is accompanied with daily dependence?  What do you do when you are flat-out tired and scared and not sure you can “rough it” one more day? Do you complain like the Israelites did, causing your initially short season to expand into a much longer than intended land…

Into the Wilderness: Part 1- Savoring Survival Mode

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 (ESV; emphasis mine)   WILDERNESS. This one word reflects so many connotations! I wonder, what image pops into your head when you picture yourself in the wilderness? Are you trudging through a scary, treacherous, and unknown landscape, like Indiana Jones, desperately trying to stay alive? Or are you more like a pirate on a scavenger hunt, combing the beach for treasure and learning how to be resourceful? Maybe, your wilderness is even more peaceful than that? Perhaps you are…

Batteries Not Included: Part 2- The Art of Celebration!

This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 (NLT) TODAY. A simply powerful word, yet so often underappreciated and taken for granted. I’m not really sure when the shift happened, but somewhere between the simple pleasures of childhood and the increasing pressures of adulthood, I have often found myself rushing through, or finding ways to avoid, TODAY. It is a recent realization that stopped me in my tracks. Here I am intentionally seeking time with God, in which I have seen Him move mountains for me! Yet, I still find myself stuck in a rut that mixes a lack of…

Batteries Not Included Part 1: Tapping Into the Power of God

Now may the God of hope fill you with ALL JOY AND PEACE in believing, so that you will abound in hope BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Romans 15:13 (NKJV, emphasis mine)   How many of us run at a pace that requires caffeinated beverages not as a luxury but, rather, as the gasoline that keeps us fueled for the next trek of the race? From the constant “dings” of the next notification to the “I needs” of family, colleagues, and friends, there are many things vying for our attention and energy. Add in the unexpected challenges, or the tragic, and it is not surprising that we feel…

    Springing Into Submission

“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”   (James 4:7 New American Standard Bible)   I don’t know if I am the only one who struggles with submission. Initially, my face physically cringes when I simply hear the word! Submit? Me? NO WAY! I’m not letting ANYONE rule over me! I’m no doormat!! At least, that is what my internal monologue screamed at the word, “submission”—well, until recently.   In previous “submissions” of my writing, I addressed the lies of the enemy and the way that he wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) anything good.  What is good is that GOD IS…
